Toran appointed associate editor for two leading ground water journals

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Jan. 30, 1997 — Dr. Laura Toran, a hydrologist in the Environmental Sciences Division of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), was recently appointed associate editor for two journals: Water Resources Research and Ground Water.

Toran will be assisting the editors of these two journals in selecting and peer reviewing articles appropriate for publication.

Toran earned her doctorate in geology from the University of Wisconsin and joined ORNL in 1986. Since that time she has also served as an adjunct professor of hydrogeology and groundwater modeling at the University of Tennessee, has edited the hydrology section web page for the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Committee and has written more than 50 technical publications, reports and abstracts.

Toran lives in Oak Ridge with her husband, Jon Nyquist, and daughters Katie, 7, and Megan, 4.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp.
