Develop standard progress and financial reporting formats

Working Group on Common Practices Among Agencies

Description:
Currently there is no government-wide format for reporting progress on Federal awards that support research. Each agency establishes its own format/form for progress reporting. Although there are four standard forms for financial reporting under financial assistance awards (i.e., SF 269/269A – Financial Status Report (Long and Short Forms) and SF 272/272A – Federal Cash Transactions Report), several agencies use their own financial reporting forms.

Scope and Key Results:
In order to reduce the burden on recipients and provide better financial information to agencies, OMB is planning to consolidate and streamline the current financial reporting forms into a singe Federal Financial Report to be used by grant and cooperative agreement recipients. Likewise, OMB or OSTP should provide guidance for a standard government-wide format for reporting progress on Federal awards that support research. This will allow awarding agency, other government agencies and the public to readily identify progress highlights. Standard forms/formats will also support the development of solutions for electronically preparing and submitting progress and financial reports.
