IHTSDO Appoints New CEO, Encourages Participation in Working Groups

New CEO Appointed

On November 23, 2007 the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) announced the appointment of Jennifer Zelmer as the new Chief Executive Officer of the organization effective February 1, 2008. The National Library of Medicine is the U.S. member of the IHTSDO, which now owns the SNOMED CT clinical terminology.

Ms. Zelmer has been working at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) since 1995, most recently as Vice President for Research and Analysis. She also has had an adjunct position at the University of Toronto since 2002, where she led the development of a graduate course on the strategic use of health information. Prior to joining CIHI, Ms. Zelmer previously worked with a variety of health, academic, and government organizations in Australia, Canada, Denmark and India.

IHTSDO Encourages Participation in Working Groups

To encourage broad participation in the ongoing development of SNOMED CT the IHTSDO has created a new web page listing the various SNOMED CT Working Groups that are open for participation. Accessed from the "About Us" page of the IHTSDO web site the Working Groups page lists both Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Project Groups (PGs) as well as instructions for obtaining access to the IHTSDO's collaborative site. Interested U.S. stakeholders should take advantage of this opportunity to work with international collaborators to improve the content of this important standard terminology.
