Regional women's health staff members promote a national women's health agenda at the regional, state, and local levels. They develop strategic plans that address both national and regional goals and develop partnerships with public and private organizations to achieve those goals. They advise Regional Health Administrators on women's health issues and collaborate with states to designate state points of contact for women's health. Activities focus on improving the health for women and girls of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

The 2007 Program Objectives

Advance Superior Health Practices for Women

This year, regional staff will identify and replicate several successful HHS women's health programs in 200 communities. Among the programs are: National Women's Health Week, the Heart Truth, HIV/AIDS Awareness Day for Women and Girls, Body Works, Steps to Healthier Girls, the Border Women's Health Institute, Woman-to Woman, Obesity and Physical Activity, and the WOMAN Challenge.

Collaborate with Partners on Women's Health Issues

Regional staff members have access to partners at the Federal, state and local levels. These partners play an important role in replicating HHS programs and promoting our materials and services. This year, regional staff will identify 35 new partners to collaborate with us on women's health issues. The goal is to increase access to healthcare for women. Partners may include: community and faith-based organizations, state and local health departments, professional associations, and universities.

Promote Public Education on Women's Health Issues

This year, regional staff will increase the participation of women and girls in health education programs. 35,000 women and girls will be educated. Special populations include: rural, racially and ethnically diverse, immigrant and refugee, women with disabilities, incarcerated women, homeless women, substance using women, non-English speaking women, and women with low literacy. Among the topics planned are chronic and infectious disease, mental health and mental illness, and violence prevention.

Promote Health Professional Education

This year, regional staff will support the shift from reaction to prevention in healthcare by educating 6,000 health professionals on women's health issues. They will also promote the use of Quick Health Data Online.
