Appointment of Assistant Director for Policy and Legislative Development

The Library has named Jane Bortnick Griffith as NLM Assistant Director for Policy and Legislative Development, a new position within the Office of the Director. "NLM is very fortunate to have someone of Ms. Griffith's stature and talent joining our staff," said NLM Director Donald A.B. Lindberg, M.D., in announcing her appointment. "Her experience in information policy at the national level is unrivaled."

Ms. Griffith has worked for more than 25 years in the field of information science and technology policy analysis. For the last two years she has served as director of a task force under the aegis of National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine that examined the goals, organization, and operational effectiveness of the National Research Council. Before that she was a senior specialist in the Library of Congress in many areas of critical interest to NLM, including Federal funding for advanced information technology.

Ms. Griffith holds a B.A. in American History from the University of Wisconsin and a M.A. in American History from Rutgers University.
