The U.S. Department of Agriculture procures the products and services it needs on a highly decentralized basis.

The charts and lists on the following pages show in broad categories the types of goods and services that USDA agencies procure in support of their programs, the percentage of procurement dollars obligated by the various agency contracting activities and the major groups of products and services procured by the various USDA agencies.

Procurement of subsistence/agricultural (food) commodities by the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) and the Kansas City Commodity Office of the Farm Service Agency (KCCO/FSA) accounts for over 55 percent of what USDA buys. This is reflected in the chart titled "What USDA Buys."

On an annual basis, USDA obligates approximately $4.6 billion for products and services (including subsistence/agricultural (food) commodities). Government commercial purchase card transactions account for about $519 million of this amount.
