National Preparedness Level 5

Weather Discussion: High pressure will begin to migrate southeastward from Nevada toward the four-corners states today, while moisture spreads from California into southern Oregon. The moisture will possibly produce isolated dry thunderstorms in the southern Oregon mountains during the afternoon. Windy conditions are also expected over central Oregon, northern Washington and western parts of Montana. Monsoon moisture continues to flow through California, Arizona, northern New Mexico and Colorado, where mainly wet thunderstorms are expected. The northern Great Basin will see hot and dry conditions, while southeast Oklahoma experiences dry weather until Saturday.

National Preparedness Level 5

Fire Weather Watches: Afternoon and evening west winds and low humidity for northwest Montana.

Weather Discussion: Hot conditions with low humidity values will cover the West today as high pressure begins to migrate southeastward from Nevada toward the four corners states. Moisture will continue to spread from California into the Pacific Northwest, possibly producing isolated dry thunderstorms from northeast Oregon through the Idaho panhandle and into western Montana. Winds are expected to increase today as well over western parts of Montana. Monsoon moisture continues over Arizona, northern New Mexico and Colorado, while wind subsides today in eastern Montana and the western Dakotas. The northern Great Basin will see hot conditions with only very isolated thunderstorms.

Weather Discussion: Hot conditions with lower humidity values will cover the West today as high pressure strengthens over the region. With the center of upper high over Nevada, moisture will spread from California into the Pacific Northwest, possibly producing isolated dry thunderstorms from the central Oregon Cascades north to the Washington border. Monsoon moisture continues over Arizona and New Mexico. A cold front exiting eastern Montana will produce some morning easterly gap winds around the Glacier Park region. The winds should subside late in the day.

Red Flag Warning: Through noon, for lightning, warm temperatures, dry humidity, dry fuels, and windy conditions over portions of northeast Wyoming and the Black Hills. For dry lightning in northeast, south central and southeast Montana.

Weather Discussion: High pressure over the western United States will continue to drift eastward today, as a weak cold front continues across the northwest states. Moisture and thunderstorms will still circulate through California today into southeast Oregon, central Idaho and southwest Montana. Breezy conditions can be expected once again in the Idaho mountains eastward to the Montana front range, and some isolated dry thunderstorms will also dot western Wyoming. Elsewhere, monsoon moisture will continue to drive thunderstorm activity in the Great Basin, western Colorado and the Southwest.

Weather Discussion: High pressure over Nevada will drift slowly east toward Utah today, wrapping moisture around its edge. As a result, thunderstorms will continue to blossom during afternoon hours over higher terrain of the interior west. Moisture over northern California, the Oregon Cascades and over the mountains east of San Diego will provide for a chance of more thunderstorms today, some of which may be dry. Moisture and instability will also remain in place over the Great Basin, Rocky Mountain, and Southwest Areas. The Northern Rockies Area is expected to remain hot and mainly dry, with breezy wind along the east slopes of the Montana Rockies.

Fire Weather Watch: For Monday afternoon in the central Oregon Cascades and in central Oregon.

Weather Discussion: High pressure centered over Nevada will continue to have a circle of moisture wrapping around its edge, sparking thunderstorms over higher terrain of the interior west. More moisture is expected to move into northern California and across the Oregon Cascades this afternoon, providing a chance for thunderstorms. Moisture and instability will also remain in place over the Great Basin, Rocky Mountain, and Southwest Areas. The Northern Rockies Area is expected to remain hot and mainly dry, with wind increasing along the east slopes of the Montana Rockies.

Additional moisture is expected to move across northern California this afternoon, providing a chance for mixed wet and dry thunderstorms. Moisture and instability will remain in place over the Great Basin and Rocky Mountain Areas, while the Southwest experiences an increase in moisture across eastern sections as a back-door cold front arrives in New Mexico tonight. Most of the Northwest and Northern Rockies are expected to remain hot and dry.

Fire Weather Watches: In south-central Montana for dry thunderstorms and low humidities and in Idaho portions of Eastern Great Basin Area for dry lightning.

Weather Discussion: High pressure will be centered over the central Colorado/Utah border today, with moisture wrapping around the edge of the high throughout the west. The remnants of Claudette will continue to weaken and rotate around the high as well, slowly moving across southern California. Moisture and instability will increase today in the northern California mountains, the Great Basin, eastern Oregon and southwest Montana. This will lead to isolated dry lightning strikes. A mixture of wet and dry thunderstorms will continue over higher elevations of central Arizona and across most of the Rocky Mountain Area.

Showers and wet thunderstorms are expected in southern New Mexico, with some moisture arriving in southeast Arizona during the early evening. Some of this moisture is also expect to wrap into west-central Arizona, southern California, the southern Great Basin and western Colorado, triggering a mixture of wet and dry thunderstorms. Unstable air over the Pacific Northwest will continue to provide a chance of very isolated dry thunderstorms over higher elevations of southeast Oregon.

Fire Weather Watches: In the Northern Rockies Area east of the Divide, due to isolated dry thunderstorms, low humidity, and gusty winds.

Weather Discussion: Unstable air behind a weak disturbance which crossed over the Pacific Northwest yesterday will provide a chance of a dry thunderstorm in the Northwest today. The eastern part of the Northern Rockies along with the central Colorado will see another mixture of wet and dry thunderstorms in the afternoon. Moisture will continue to wrap up along the Mogollon Rim in Arizona for another chance of thunderstorms today. There is also the possibility that some moisture and isolated thunder activity will move as far west as the southern California Sierras.  Ahead of Claudette in Arizona and New Mexico, easterly winds will increase today.
