National Preparedness Level 5

Weather Discussion: High pressure will continue to build into the west, with temperatures warming gradually over the next few days. Flow around a high pressure in the west central states and weak low pressure off the California coast will provide some moisture over the Sierras today. The moisture may spark thunderstorms in the southern California mountains.

National Preparedness Level 5

Weather Discussion: The surface high pressure which brought cooler air and an easterly upslope flow along the Continental Divide in Montana will weaken today. High pressure will be sliding into place for most of the west, with the exception of eastern Wyoming and northern Colorado. In these locations, an upper low will slowly move away from the region. However, some showers and wet thunderstorms are possible early today as the system departs. The Pacific Northwest will warm a few degrees each day over the weekend as high pressure builds.

Weather Discussion: A frontal system will be moving across the Northern Rockies today, causing afternoon wind to increase and raising the possibility of thunderstorms. The higher wind is expected to be concentrated from central Idaho through all of Montana later in the afternoon. Elsewhere, scattered thunderstorm activity is again expected in the southern Great Basin, over the Southwest Area, and into southern California. Isolated thunderstorms may also arrive in the evening across northwest Wyoming.

Red Flag Warnings: In the northern Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming, Montana east of the divide and North Dakota for strong gusty winds and thunderstorms.

Weather Discussion: A low pressure area will move across northern Idaho this morning, as a cold front extends through the Northwest later today. Showers and thunderstorms left over in northwest Montana and northern Idaho will make their way into Canada early today. As a cold front crosses the northwest quadrant of the country, winds will increase and become gusty. Dryer and cooler air will also filter into the northwest states behind the frontal passage.

National Preparedness Level 5

Red Flag Warnings: Montana west of the divide for dry and wet thunderstorms and gusty winds

Fire Weather Watches: West central Montana west of the divide, all Montana east of the divide, and western North Dakota for dry and wet thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Weather Discussion: A low pressure area off the coast of California will rotate inland today, increasing moisture and instability across Oregon and Idaho. The moisture and instability will eventually make its way into western Montana this evening and overnight. As storms begin, some of them may be on the dry side and accompanied by strong winds, especially across Montana. The wettest storms are expected in Oregon and over the central mountains of Idaho. Conditions will remain warm and unstable across Wyoming as well, with isolated thunderstorm activity in the afternoon. Northern California and the northern Great Basin should also see thunderstorms today, before drying out on Saturday.

Weather Discussion: Winds today are forecast to be lighter over the west, with no major frontal passages. However, temperatures across the Northern Rockies will be warmer today, with slightly lower daytime relative humidity values. Additional moisture and instability will spread through the Great Basin and into northern California for increased shower and thunderstorm activity. Much of the thunderstorm activity is expected to be wet. By the evening hours, some of the thunderstorms may spill into southern Oregon and Idaho.

Weather Discussion: A fast moving cold front will cross over eastern Montana today. Winds are expected to be strong and gusty along the front as it passes. Isolated thunderstorms are also expected with the frontal passage. Additional moisture and instability will spread over the southern Great Basin and along the California Sierras today for the possibility of increased thunderstorm activity. Widely scattered thunderstorms are also expected in parts of the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Areas.

Fire Weather Watches: For gusty winds, hot temperatures, low relative humidity in western and central North Dakota. For increasing and shifting winds and thunderstorm activity, dry relative humidity and hot temperatures in the Black Hills and northeast Wyoming.

Red Flag Warnings: For gusty winds, hot temperatures, low relative humidity and thunderstorms in south central and southeast Montana. For increasing and shifting winds and thunderstorm activity, dry relative humidity and hot temperatures in the northern Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming.

Weather Discussion: An upper level low pressure area will make its way into western Wyoming today. This trough will eventually be absorbed into another low across the four corners area, then move eastward through the Plains. Moisture and instability ahead and north of the system will spark thunderstorms today from southwest to northeast Montana, through eastern parts of the Great Basin, and over the Southwest. Some storms in Montana may be of the dry variety. The northern parts of Idaho should experience less thunderstorm activity as the atmosphere stabilizes behind the cold front. However, temperatures will start to inch their way upwards as relative humidity decreases.

Fire Weather Watches: For low humidity and isolated dry lightning in southwest, south-central, and southeast Montana. For gusty southerly winds and low humidity in western and south-central North Dakota.

Weather Discussion: The weather pattern continues to feature an upper low parked off the Northwest Coast and a strong ridge of high pressure from New Mexico through the Dakotas. This leaves most of the West in a south to southwest flow pattern. Breezy and unstable afternoon conditions, with some dry thunderstorms are the result across the upper Great Basin and Northern Rocky Mountain Areas. The pattern is not expected to break down until Wednesday afternoon.

Weather Discussion: High pressure will continue to sit over the central part of the country today, while low pressure nears the Pacific Coast. Moisture will spread from the Great Basin into Idaho and Montana, sparking showers and thunderstorms. The moisture is expected to be more limited across central Montana, where a few dry lightning strikes may occur. In the Northwest, relative humidity is expected to be higher today as moisture moves onto the coast from the low sitting offshore. Southern California and the southern Great Basin will dry out today as southwesterly flow develops.

Breezy conditions and low relative humidity are also expected over central Oregon, northern Washington and western parts of Montana. Monsoon moisture continues to flow through California, Arizona, northern New Mexico and Colorado, where mainly wet thunderstorms are expected. The Great Basin will see scattered thunderstorms for another day, while southeast Oklahoma may experience a round of severe thunderstorms as a front passes through the region.

The moisture may produce isolated dry thunderstorms over the extreme southern Oregon mountains during the afternoon. Windy conditions and low relative humidity are also expected over central Oregon, northern Washington and western parts of Montana. Some record high temperature readings are also possible in western Montana.
