Cecilia Seesholtz Named Boise National Forest Supervisor

Photo of Cecilia Seesholtz.OGDEN, UT March 25, 2008—Cecilia Seesholtz, currently the Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Deschutes National Forest in Oregon, will be the new Supervisor of the Boise National Forest in Boise, Idaho, Forest Service officials announced today.

As Forest Supervisor of the Boise National Forest, Seesholtz, 44, will have the responsibility for managing 2.6-million acres of National Forest land in southwest Idaho. The Forest, which is comprised of five Ranger Districts and the Lucky Peak Nursery, is known for outstanding recreation opportunities and a wide variety of multiple use activities.

“Cecilia’s broad experience and the high caliber of her work make her the perfect fit for the issues, the communities, and the resources of the Boise National Forest,” said Intermountain Regional Forester Harv Forsgren. “I am excited to have such an experienced manager to provide the necessary leadership for the many complex issues faced by the Boise National Forest. Cecilia’s high energy and commitment to work with people who hold divergent points of view will serve her and the Boise well."

Seesholtz began her career with the Forest Service in 1983 as a student trainee forester on the Nez Perce National Forest in central Idaho. Between 1986 and 1989 she held various jobs as a Timber Forester on the Nez Perce. In 1990 Seesholtz moved to the Clearwater National Forest, also in central Idaho, to be the Forest’s Environmental Coordinator. Between 1993 and 2006 she held various positions on National Forests in Michigan, Arizona and New Mexico, including a seven year assignment as District Ranger on the Carson National Forest in New Mexico. She has been the Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Deschutes National Forest since 2006.

Seesholtz has a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management from Northern Arizona University.

“I am honored to have been selected as the Boise Forest Supervisor," said Seesholtz. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Idaho and I look forward to working with the communities, partners and employees of the Boise National Forest."

Seesholtz’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, quilting and music. Her husband David, also a Forest Service employee, will continue his work for the Pacific Northwest Research Station from Boise.

Seesholtz will begin work at the Boise National Forest on May 12. She replaces Dick Smith, who retired in January. Frank Guzman who has been acting Forest Supervisior since then, will return as the Boise Deputy Forest Supervisor, a job he has held since late 2006.
