DATE: August 3, 2007

RICHFIELD, Utah—The Fishlake National Forest will replace five culverts on Dry Creek Canyon Road, (Forest Road 40071), east of Marysvale above Elbow Ranch. The contractor from Spanish Fork will arrive in the area on August 8, 2007 and may begin work shortly thereafter. The project is expected to be completed within 30 days.

Traffic interruptions during the week will be associated with removing the existing culverts and installing new ones. No road work will be done during the weekend between the hours of noon on Friday to Monday morning. Road closure signs will be posted during the week in this area that is popular for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) use. The Forest and contractor will do everything possible to minimize delays and safely accommodate OHV use, but some delays will be unavoidable.

The culvert replacement is necessary in order to repair damage that occurred during flooding in 2005. The culverts had been repaired, but forest engineers don’t expect them to be able to handle peak flows during future rains. The new culverts will have a wider diameter and will be aligned in such a way to limit the likelihood of obstruction by debris. The Forest has experienced slides in the area of Dry Creek Canyon Road due to recent storms.
