Road Conditions Report from the Escalante Interagency Visitor Center

This road report includes roads in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Dixie National Forest, and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Roads to the East

Burr Trail: Open to two-wheel drives.

Notom-Bullfrog: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

Road to Bullfrog Marina: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives. Bullfrog Creek crossing requires high-clearance two-wheel drives. The ferry is running.

Wolverine Loop: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives. The cut-off road requires high-clearance four-wheel drives.

Cedar Wash: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

Hole-in-the-Rock: Open to two-wheel drives. The last seven miles of this road always requires high clearance four-wheel drives. The side roads are rough and may require high clearance four-wheel drives.

Spencer Flats: Open to two-wheel drives.

Roads to the North

Hell's Backbone: Open to two-wheel drives. This road was recently graded.

Posey Lake to Loa: Open to two-wheel drives.

Whites Flat: Open to two-wheel drives.

Griffin Top: Open to two-wheel drives.

North Creek: Open to two-wheel drives. This road was recently graded.

Main Canyon: Open to two-wheel drives.

 

Roads to the Central Areas

Alvey Wash: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

Smokey Mountain: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives. This road is rough, slow speeds are recommended.

Left Hand Collet: Open to high-clearance four-wheel drives.

Croton: Open to high-clearance four-wheel drives. Very rough in spots.

Smoky Hollow: Open to high-clearance four-wheel drives. Very rough in spots.

 

Roads to the West

Cottonwood Canyon: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

Skutumpah: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

Glendale Bench: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

 

Other Roads in the Area

Paria Movie Set: Open to four-wheel drives. This road is washed out just south of the movie set and north of the movie set at Pilot Wash.

House Rock: Open to high-clearance two-wheel drives.

Whitehouse: Open to two-wheel drives.

 

Drivers need to be aware that this is the season for heavy brief rains that may cause localized road damage. Please drive cautiously on all dirt roads and remember the potential for flash flooding when crossing washes.
