Fire and Aviation
Why is Hazardous Fuels Reduction important?
It can be the most effective way to reduce large fire
suppression costs, protect community values, restore
forest and grassland health, and improve firefighter
and public safety through an aggressive hazardous fuels
treatment program.
How is the work accomplished on the ground?
Hazardous fuels are treated using a wide range of tools
with the goals of reducing the risk of wildland fire
to communities and the environment. Fire managers use
mechanical equipment, prescribed fire, chemicals, and/or
a combination of different techniques and methods to
efficiently reduce hazardous fuels. The selected method
is based on what is appropriate to achieve the goals
outlined in the resource or fire management plan.
