UFMS

Unified Financial Management System (UFMS) - An integrated, department wide financial management solution that aligns business and technology to enhance the Department's ability to fulfill its mission.

During Fiscal Year 2001, HHS initiated the UFMS initiative - a critical component of the Department's efforts to modernize its financial management systems and information technology infrastructure. The UFMS is a critical element of HHS' efforts to improve financial operations and performance.

The unified system will be comprised of two primary sub-components - (1) the Healthcare Integrated General Ledger and Accounting System (HIGLAS), which is a system for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and its Medicare contractors, and (2) another system for the rest of HHS.

The UFMS initiative is projected to continue through Fiscal year 2007, however, the initial deployment of UFMS for CDC and FDA represented 86% of the initial core requirements, with the PSC go live in October 2006 the system will be nearing completion from a development perspective and moving to the final configuration and conversion of the Indian Health Service.
