Oregon Poised In National Pharmacy Leadership Role
06/04/2008
Oregon Board of Pharmacy’s Executive Director, Gary Schnabel, RPh, RN, was elected to serve as the 2008-2009 president-elect of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) during the Association’s 104th Annual Meeting, May 17-20, 2008, in Baltimore, MD. He will go on to serve as the Association’s 2009-2010 President beginning in May of 2009. Prior to the election, Mr. Schnabel served as the NABP Treasurer from 2007 to 2008 and as an Executive Committee member representing District 7 from 2003 to 2007.

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) is the independent, international and impartial association that assists its member boards and jurisdictions in developing, implementing, and enforcing uniform standards for the purpose of protecting the public health relating to pharmacy.  Given that medications are an integral part of disease management, medication therapies and their delivery systems are becoming more complex,  and technological enhancements have improved as have capabilities for patient monitoring; there is greater potential for harm to the public and a greater need for patients’ medication use to be managed by a licensed pharmacist.  State regulatory agencies, such as the Oregon Board of Pharmacy play a key role in aggressively enforcing standards of pharmacy care.   With Mr. Schnabel’s ascension to president elect of the National Boards of Pharmacy, Oregon is poised to play a national leadership role in the pharmacy healthcare arena.
