Follow CDC Recommendations to Disinfect Spills
Bleach Solution OK to Use
Bleach
If blood or other bodily fluids spill on work surfaces, state regulations require cleaning the contaminated area with either a high-level disinfectant or a bleach solution based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
  • The CDC recommends a solution of one part bleach to 10 parts water (1:10) for heavy spills.

  • The CDC recommends a solution of one part bleach to 100 parts water (1:100) for lighter spills.
Caution:  (1:10) bleach solution is caustic.  Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. Prepare the bleach solution in a well-ventilated area.
