Frequently asked questions
What is FHIAP and how can it help my clients?
  • FHIAP offers subsidies to income-eligible Oregonians who have been uninsured for at least six months.

  • The subsidy pays a large portion of the premium costs for health insurance plans offered in the private market.

  • Depending on your client's gross income and family size, FHIAP pays 95%, 90%, 70%, or 50% of their portion of the insurance premium.

  • Members are responsible for the co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles of their private insurance plans.

  • FHIAP is NOT a health insurance company. FHIAP only provides subsidies to members to help them purchase private health insurance.

What is my role with FHIAP?
  • Producers play a crucial role in assisting lower income Oregonians access health insurance and health care. Your role is critical to the success of our program.

  • FHIAP is designed to help reduce the number of Oregon residents without health insurance. The delivery of health care to this population is a task that is extremely important to our state. You have the ability to increase the successful delivery of health insurance to our target audience.

What are the benefits of being a FHIAP referral producer?
  • Certified producers are placed on our producer referral list. We use this list to refer individuals seeking health care coverage in either the individual or group markets to a producer in their community.

  • In addition, certified producers are informed of current legislative changes in the insurance market.

How do I become a referral producer?
You must attend a FHIAP training program and complete a FHIAP referral program application.

Producer marketing materials
Many health insurance producers (agents) ask how they can incorporate FHIAP into their marketing. Here are three "sample" advertisements (.doc) that we created to help you with the design. The document is a Microsoft Word file. You may download these, add your text and send them on to a newspaper. If you need assistance, please call Bill Banaszek at (503) 378-6454.
