Agent Referral Program
The Office of Private Health Partnerships provides a referral program to link individuals and small business owners with a health insurance agent (producer) who can help them navigate the insurance system. This service is free!

Our referral program puts you in touch with an agent in your community. More than 400 agents from throughout Oregon participate in this program.

You may find this service useful if you are a:

  • Small employer who wants to compare plans and learn about insurance eligibility rules for your business.
  • An individual who doesn't get insurance at work and needs to understand insurance options. An agent can explain prices and benefits of different plans and explain some of the rules of insurance in the individual insurance market.
  • Candidate for the Oregon Medical Insurance Pool because of a medical condition (pre-existing condition) or other reasons. An agent will explain the pool, its plans and help you apply.
  • Husband- and wife-owned business (sometimes referred to as a "Mom and Pop" business). You may be eligible to purchase group insurance. An agent can explain the differences in the group and individual insurance markets and plan choices that are the best for you.

Remember, this service is free. Agents receive a commission if they sell a health policy but this commission is already built into the monthly premium. That means that people who buy insurance pay for this service whether they use an agent or not.

FHIAP

The Family Health Insurance Assistance Program (FHIAP) relies heavily on insurance agents to explain health plans to people who are approved for individual market subsidies. These FHIAP members select coverage from a list of high-quality health plans offered by a variety of insurance companies.

An agent will:
  • Explain the different costs of monthly premiums, deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments and help select a plan that fits a family's needs.
  • Speed the process. An agent will have applications to the different insurance companies and can help people apply.
  • Help people who are turned down for insurance because of a health condition or have a condition that allows them to apply directly to the high-risk Oregon Medical Insurance Pool (OMIP).
  • Answer questions about what is covered under the different FHIAP-approved plans.
