Chippewa National Forest
Fall Color Report

Week of October 6, 2008

This week you will find lots of color this week in the Chippewa National Forest! The drive from State Highway 371 from Walker to Cass Lake is beautiful at this time. The red oaks are displaying a nice burgundy shade, the aspen is yellowish-gold and the maples are hanging on to their bright orange color. Any forest road you choose to travel will display appealing leaf color at this time!

Week of September 29, 2008

The Ladyslipper Scenic Highway from Cass Lake to Blackduck, MN is showing a little color this week but leaves not quite at peak yet in the Chippewa National Forest. The storm last weekend brought leaves to the ground but look forward to the next few weeks for some brilliant colors!

Week of September 15, 2008

Leaf color is slowly starting to change this week at the Chippewa National Forest. Patches of yellow leaves in ash trees and orange-red in the maples can be seen here and there. For the most part, leaves are still green. Sumac is a nice shade of red at this time. Color change will progress with the warm, sunny days and cool nights. The peak color in our area is expected the end of September. More color coming soon!
