The Director’s Office initiated the Edward Teller Fellowships in 2000 to
honor one of the Laboratory’s most distinguished founders. The fellowships
recognize and promote the scientific accomplishments of recipients, all of
whom have made pioneering advances in their fields of expertise. In the spirit
of the MacArthur Awards, the Teller Fellowships are tailored to each individual
recipient. The structure of the award allows the recipients the opportunity
to do self-directed work for the benefit of the Laboratory for about a year,
and provides fellows with the flexibility to expand their research or explore
new areas of scientific inquiry.
