Business Energy Tax Credits
Tax credits are available for Oregon businesses that invest in energy conservation, recycling, renewable energy resources and less-polluting transportation fuels. Any Oregon business may qualify. 

 

Energy Loan Program
Low-interest, long-term loans are available for businesses and others  that invest in energy conservation,  produce energy from renewable resources, and use recycled materials to create products. 

 

Utility Restructuring    
Effective March 1, 2002, Portland General Electric (PGE) and PacifiCorp must allow their non-residential consumers to purchase electricity (and certain related services) from other electricity providers if they choose.  They must also collect a public purpose charge from their consumers to pay for conservation, renewable resources, and services for low-income households. Large electric consumers may qualify to self-direct their public purpose charges.

 

Lighting in Commercial Facilities
Lighting systems normally account for 30 percent of the electrical energy use in office, retail or institutional facilities in Oregon. That doesn´t take into account any cooling energy required because an inefficient lighting system adds excessive heat inside the building. By having an energy efficient lighting system in your commercial facility, you can reduce energy use and costs.

 

Developing New Energy Technologies and Inventions 
Many Oregonians come to the Oregon Department of Energy looking for support in developing new and innovative energy technologies or practices. The Oregon Department of Energy encourages Oregonians to pursue these efforts to make Oregon a seedbed for clean energy technologies. However, we are limited legally and financially in what kind of support we can offer. 

 

 

Demand-Controlled Ventilation Guide
This guide is intended to assist those implementing demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) systems. It was written by Marty Stipe, P.E. with the Oregon Department of Energy in June 2003. Funding for the guide was provided by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.

An energy savings performance contract is an agreement between an energy services company (ESCO) and a building owner. 

 

Energy Efficiency for Industry
In recent years, Oregon industry has led the nation in the rate of manufacturing growth. In 1999, Oregon´s industries consumed 31 percent of all energy used in the state. This is the single largest energy use segment. Because industry uses such a large part of the state´s energy and economic resources, the Oregon Department of Energy provides these web pages to assist industry to improve efficiency and productivity.

October is Energy Awareness Month. To celebrate, Oregon´s Energy Awareness Web site has tips to help you use energy efficiently and stories about Oregon businesses that have successfully saved energy.

 

Building Commissioning 
The commissioning process ensures that the complex equipment providing lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation and other amenities in buildings works together effectively and efficiently. Studies on commissioning show that the process provides average energy savings of 15 to 30 percent.

The energy conservation requirements for all buildings constructed in Oregon are contained within the state´s building
codes.
