Juniperus scopulorum--Rocky Mountain Juniper

Type: narrow-leaved evergreen tree
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches

Comments: This is a juniper that, as its name implies, is
native to the Rocky Mountains. The growth habit and
foliage color will vary with the cultivar. Rocky Mountain
Juniper is one of the more cold tolerant junipers.

Cultivars:
'Blue Arrow' - A narrow, upright form with bluish
foliage and a 10-foot height.
'Blue Heaven' (Blue Haven) - A 20-foot tall pyramidal
form with bright blue foliage in all seasons (Vis. 1).
'Blue Trail' - A columnar form with bluish foliage.
The plant will be about 20 feet tall but spread only
6 feet.
'Cologreen' - A cone-like form with a height to 20 feet
and a spread of 7 feet. Bright green foliage.
'Gray Gleam' - A slow-growing, columnar form with
silvery-gray, bluish foliage. The foliage coloration
intensifies in winter. The plant is conical and will
be 15 feet tall and 7 feet wide.
'Greenspire' - A narrow, upright type with green
foliage.
'Medora' - A slow-growing, narrow columnar form about
10 feet high and only 2 to 3 feet wide. The foliage
is bluish-green (Vis. 2).
'Moffetii' - A dense, pyramidal plant with silvery-blue
foliage. Usually 20 feet tall and 4 feet wide.
'Monam' (Blue Creeper TM) - A low, spreading selection
that forms a 2 foot tall mound spreading to 8 feet.
The foliage is bright blue that is intensified by cold
weather.
'Monwade' (Green Ice TM) - A pyramidal form 15 feet
tall and up to 10 feet wide. The new growth is green
with older growth grayish-green.
'Moonglow' - Silvery blue foliage is displayed on a
pyramidal form 15 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
'Pathfinder' - A 15-foot tall pyramidal form with blue-
gray foliage (Vis. 5).
'Skyrocket' - A very, narrow, 15-foot upright form with
silvery blue foliage.
'Sutherland - A 20-foot tall pyramid that has a width
of 6 feet and silvery green foliage.
'Table Top Blue' - A semi-spreading plant 5 feet tall
and 7 feet wide. The foliage is rich, silvery-blue.
'Tolleson's Blue Weeping' - A cultivar with weeping
branches. The plant will be 10 feet wide and
has silvery gray foliage.
'Tolleson's Green Weeping' - Same as blue weeping but
with green foliage.
'Welchi' - A 12-foot tall cone with bluish-green
foliage.
'Winter Blue' - A semi-prostrate form only 18 inches
tall but spreading to 5 feet. The foliage is silvery-
blue.
'Wichita Blue' - A pyramidal form (Vis. 3) that can be 15
feet tall and 6 feet wide. The foliage (Vis. 4) is
blue.
