PORTLAND, Ore. - PORTLAND, Ore. - Navigation locks at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the Columbia River will re-open on or before the scheduled time of 11:59 p.m., Saturday, March 24.

Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day locks and dams, located at Columbia River Miles 145, 191 and 216 respectively, have been closed for routine maintenance and repairs since Saturday, March 10. The Corps will close the John Day navigation lock two more times in the next two weeks. The first closure will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 29 to allow divers to inspect the spillway near the navigation lock discharge area. This closure will provide a safe environment for divers to inspect the three northernmost spillway bays. No vessels will be allowed in the navigation lock's downstream approach channel during this period due to a concurrent inspection of the fishway water pump intake trash racks located in the approach channel.

The second closure is to re-tension wire ropes that were installed on the downstream lift gate during the original maintenance closure. This outage will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 3. The Columbia-Snake Inland Waterway is a river highway extending 465 miles from the Pacific Ocean to Lewiston, Idaho. It is a vital link to the international trade and transportation network in the Northwest. Navigation on the waterway for commercial and recreational vessels is made possible by eight dams and navigation locks operated by the Corps. More than 30 million tons of cargo move through the Columbia River locks each year.
