Richard T. Howard
President, First Flight Centennial Foundation
Richard T. Howard is President of the First Flight Centennial Foundation. He is also
Chairman of the Board of Howard Management Group, which specializes in
construction of municipal and federal utility and heavy civil projects.
Prior
to his current positions, Howard has had the overall responsibility for an
international construction organization, ranked in the top 100 in the world.
From 1960 to 1985, he was president and Chief Executive Officer of Howard
Corporation. He held the same offices from 1978 to 1985 at Paul N. Howard
Company. Before his positions as President and CEO, he was the Managing
Director for Howard International Establishment, Howard of Saudi Arabia, Howard
of Egypt and Howard Construction Services, UK, where he was responsible for
project management and general management of operations for domestic and
foreign constructions.
Howard has been highly involved in civic activities. Some of his present activities
include member of the Greensboro Development Corporation, Greensboro Sports
Council, Green Coat Club and Honorary Statewide Cabinet for St. John's Museum
of Art. In the past, Howard has been Vice Chairman of North Carolina's First
Flight Centennial Commission, as well as Chairman and member of the N.C.
Licensing Board for General Contractors. He has been on the Board of Trustees
for the National Conference of Christians and Jews (national and local boards),
UNCG Excellence Foundation of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
and New Garden Friends School. Howard held seats on the Board of Directors for
the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Drug Action Council and the Green Hill
Center for North Carolina Art. Additionally, he was on the Board of Visitors at
Guilford College, Honorary Chairman of the Greater Greensboro Open and a member
of the Greensboro Civitan Club.
Howard was in the United States Army in 1957. He received his BS at the University of
South Carolina in Business Administration and finished the Executive Program at
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
