4-5 Records Which May Be Withheld From Disclosure

The FOIA (5 USC 552(b)(19) provides nine exemptions under which records or portions of records may be withheld from public disclosure. A custodian may disclose exempt information as a matter of discretion if that disclosure is not prohibited by law and would not cause any foreseeable harm. The nine exemptions and records covered under each are listed in sections 4-5.1 through 4-5.9.
