STATEMENT BY COMMERCE SECRETARY DON EVANS ON HOUSE-SENATE COMMITTEE ACTION REGARDING
AIRLINE ASSISTANCE

“The Administration was aware of Congressional interest in providing some limited, temporary assistance to the airline industry due to the likely complications for their businesses created by the war in Iraq. However, today’s actions taken in both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees came as a surprise. Therefore, we will work with the Congress before the supplemental bill is completed to ensure that the airlines receive more reasonable assistance.”
