Statement by Secretary Evans on the Senate Finance Committee's Vote on TPA

Washington, DC - I applaud the Senate Finance Committee for its strong, bipartisan vote in support of Trade Promotion Authority. Today's 18-3 vote proves that the Senate supports trade policy, not trade politics.

Free trade creates new opportunities felt on every farm, factory floor and Main Street across America. The President has asked for TPA so the United States can lead the world on trade. I hope Senator Daschle's support in Committee means the Senate will vote on TPA as soon as possible.
