Commerce
Secretary Announces $500,000 Investment In Epping, New Hampshire
U.S.
Commerce Secretary Don Evans and U.S. Rep. John Sununu (1st Dist.-N.H.)
today announced a $500,000 economic development investment in the
town of Epping, N.H. The investment will improve routes 101 and 125
to allow for increased commercial and industrial development.
The
Department of Commerce is pleased to partner with the people of Epping.
This investment is a great example of Congressman Sununus commitment
to help the Bush Administration empower local communities with the
necessary tools to grow their economy, attract investments and create
jobs in New Hampshire, said Evans.
"This
funding represents a commitment on the part of the Commerce Department
to Epping's continued economic development," said Sununu, who
met with local and state officials on the project last spring. "I
am pleased that the Rockingham County Economic Development Corporation
has made 'Epping Crossing' its top priority, ultimately ensuring new
jobs for the greater Epping area."
The investment is expected to help create more than 1,000 jobs for
local citizens and spur as much as $35 million in private-sector investments.
The Commerce Departments Economic Development Administration
(EDA) funded the grant. EDA serves as a venture capital resource to
meet the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout
the United States. EDA partners with states, units of local government
and community nonprofit organizations in economically-distressed areas,
regions and communities in order to alleviate conditions of poverty
and substantial and persistent unemployment and underemployment.

communities create a positive and sustainable economic future can
