Chief Counsel
For Advocacy Testifies In Support Of Regulatory Relief
For Small Business
WASHINGTON, D.C. Thomas M. Sullivan, Chief Counsel for Advocacy, testified today before the Committee on Government Reform of the U.S. House of Representatives in support of regulatory relief for small business.
In his testimony, Sullivan discussed reforms contained in the "Paperwork and Regulatory Improvements Act of 2003." He said that the Office of Advocacy works to reduce burdens on small business and "while Advocacy and OMB work to improve agency rulemakings, small businesses are obliged to comply with rules that may have significant costs and negligible societal benefits." He added that, "unfortunately, Advocacys and OMBs efforts have too often been hampered by incomplete agency estimates of the costs and benefits of regulations."
The Office of Advocacy examines the role and status of small business in the economy and independently represents the views of small business to federal agencies, Congress, and the President. It is the source for small business statistics presented in user-friendly formats and it funds research into small business issues.
