Dr. Robert Brockhaus Named National Research Advocate Of The Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. Dr. Robert Brockhaus, Director of the Jefferson Smurfit Center for Entrepreneurial Studies of St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., has been named the inaugural National Research Advocate of the Year by the Office of Advocacy of the SBA. He received the award for his contributions to small business research.
"Its through the work of researchers like Dr. Robert Brockhaus that we know just how important small business is to our economy and our communities," said Thomas M. Sullivan, Chief Counsel for Advocacy. "His work, especially in the area of family-owned businesses, shows the importance of having good, solid research available for policy makers. He is the right person to be the first National Research Advocate of the Year," he said.
The award, first given in 2003, is made to an individual who conducts academic and practical research into small business. Evaluation criteria include research products on the value of small business, development of small business and entrepreneurship curricula, and research presented at national and international conferences.
The Office of Advocacy annual awards include Entrepreneurial Success, Financial Services Advocate, Home-Based Business Advocate, Minority Small Business Advocate, Research Advocate, SBA Young Entrepreneur, Small Business Exporter, Small Business Journalist, Veteran Small Business Advocate, and Women in Business Advocate.
National Advocate award winners will be honored during the National Entrepreneurship Conference & Expo, held September 15-20, 2003, in Washington, D.C.
The Office of Advocacy examines the role and status of small business in the economy and independently represents the views of small business to Congress and the President. It is the source for small business statistics presented in user-friendly formats and it funds research into small business issues.
