Stephen Mee Named National Minority Small Business Advocate Of The Year
Program Manager, Cerro Grande National Laboratory, Los Alamos, N.M.
WASHINGTON, D.C. Mr. Stephen Mee, Program Manager at the Cerro Grande National Laboratory of Los Alamos, N.M., has been named the National Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year by the Office of Advocacy of the SBA. He received the award for his outstanding advocacy efforts on behalf of minority-owned small businesses.
"Stephen Mee doesnt just talk the talk, he walks the walk," said Thomas M. Sullivan, Chief Counsel for Advocacy. "He worked hard to identify local, Native American-owned small business that could take part in the rehabilitation of the area damaged by the Cerro Grande fire. Not only that, but he made sure that the community received the training it needed. And, he did all this with respect for Pueblo spiritual ways and culture," he said.
The award is given to an individual whose voluntary efforts advance minority small business interests and improve conditions in the minority small business community, provide professional services to minority small businesses, and demonstrate accomplishments in advising minority small business groups of opportunities within the overall business community.
The Office of Advocacy annual awards include Entrepreneurial Success, Financial Services Advocate, Home-Based Business Advocate, Minority Small Business Advocate, Research Advocate, SBA Young Entrepreneur, Small Business Exporter, Small Business Journalist, Veteran Small Business Advocate, and Women in Business Advocate.
National Advocate award winners will be honored during the National Entrepreneurship Conference & Expo, held September 15-20, 2003, in Washington, D.C.
The Office of Advocacy examines the role and status of small business in the economy and independently represents the views of small business to Congress and the President.
