National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey: 1995 Outpatient Department Summary Advance Data 284. A new report has been released by the National Center for Health Statistics. The report, "National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey: 1995 Outpatient Department Summary" provides data on the estimated number of outpatient department visits made in the United States in 1995. The data were collected through the 1995 National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS) , a national probability sample survey of visits to outpatient departments, and emergency departments of non-Federal, short-stay and general hospitals in the United States. NHAMCS is part of the National Health Care Survey, a system that measures health care utilization across various types of providers. Utilization data in the report are by age, sex, and race. The diagnoses are classified by the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD- 9- CM). Data Highlights: The total estimated number of visits to hospital outpatient departments was 67.2 million. The total estimated injury related outpatient department visits was 7.3 million. The overall rates for outpatient department visits were 25.7 per 100 persons.
