National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey: 1993 Emergency Department Summary Advance Data 271. An estimated 90.3 million visits (about 35.5 visits per 100 persons) were made to hospital emergency departments (ED) of non-Federal, short-stay, or general hospitals in the United States.
