Dear Friend,

Each year through a national competition, 435 students across the country have the opportunity to display their artwork in the U.S. Capitol. This year’s 2008 Congressional Art Competition is now underway and it boasts the theme: An Artistic Discovery. I enjoy highlighting the artwork of students from across the Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District each year in the U.S. Capitol and in my Congressional office, and I always look forward to seeing what they will create.

The Artistic Discovery contest is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the extraordinary talent of our nation’s young artists on an annual basis. Last year I was proud to sponsor the artwork of Kaitlyn Eubanks of Hot Springs. Kaitlyn’s artwork, entitled, "Patriots,” is currently hanging in the U.S. Capitol for visitors from Arkansas and across the world to see.

High schools in the Fourth District interested in participating are encouraged to organize a contest within their school. First and second-place winners from each school will be judged by an independent panel of art teachers in the district to determine the overall first, second and third place winners. The first place winner’s artwork will then be sent to Washington, D.C., where I will it will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. In addition, I will display the second and third place winners’ artwork in my Congressional office for the year.

For more information about the Congressional Art Contest and how to participate, please visit my web site, or call my office at (800)223-2220. I encourage everyone interested to participate in the contest and look forward to once again highlighting the wonderful artwork of Arkansas’s students.

Sincerely,

Mike Ross Signature
