Chesters' Listing of other GOES Data Servers
- NASA/MSFC offers Realtime GOES data and a round-the-world cloud composite.
- The NASA-LaRC Satellite Image Server has a menu-driven selection of GOES realtime images.
- Surf current global weather using images made from all the geosynchronous weather satellites
- The Naval Research Lab in Monterey, CA provides METEOSAT, GOES, and GMS images that are focused on Naval and west coast weather considerations. They remap the satellite images to standard coordinates with geopolitical boundaries, overlay meteorological contours, and provide some nice long movies of geosynchronous satellite images. The NRL site has the best-balanced Web presentation of global weather observable from geosynchronous satellites.
- NASA-GSFC provides calibrated and navigated realtime GOES images in TIFF format at full resolution over all the land areas and many ocean areas in the western hemisphere for the past 12 to 16 hours using web browsers:
The same server at GSFC can also be accessed by anonymous FTP for automated downloads of these calibrated, earth-located images:
The NASA-GSFC is the only server featuring dozens of local sectors at full, over-sampled resolution (7/4ths at 1 km visible, 4 km infrared), with the infrared channels as calibrated brightness temperatures, and the visible chanel as albedo.
There are also multi-spectral false-color images in JPEG format for the last 2 days, covering the popular regions such as CONUS from GOES-EAST and CONUS from GOES-WEST.
- NOAA's cooperative institutes post recent GOES data on the net, generally low resolution images in GIF and JPEG formats with map overlays:
- NCAR-UCAR posts realtime weather data and full-resolution GOES images for a few sectors around the USA.
- NBC-4 weather satellite pics for eastern USA
- EarthWatch posts 3D-ized GOES infrared images over the USA, including a QuickTime movie loop for the last 12 hours.
- The GOES Space Environment Monitor (SEM) data is sent to the NOAA Space Environment Lab (SEL), where they analyse and forecast the Sun's "weather", with on-line images and graphs of particle counts from GOES-7 and GOES-8.
- The Solar X-ray Imager (SXI) was launched on GOES-12 in 2001. The SXI was made operational in the spring of 2003, late in that solar cycle. The current full-disk solar image is on-line, along with corresponding images from other satellites.
- NGDC, the National Geophysical Data Center, posts an interactive page for plotting any month of GOES SEM data collected since 1993.
- Volcanoes can often be seen in the GOES image data.
- Many other universities and research labs offer excellent collections of weather maps and satellite images, usually copied from the SSEC or NASA-AMES site.
It is a weather information superhighway out there:
