NBC's KXAS-TV in Fort Worth Achieves OSHA Recognition
Ceremony Held Today in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas -- National Broadcasting Company (NBC) KXAS-TV Channel 5 has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony was held today at the company's facility on Barnett St. in Fort Worth.

"NBC's KXAS-TV has continued to demonstrate excellence in effective safety and health management for more than five years," said OSHA Acting Regional Administrator Frank Strasheim. "Their outstanding efforts include an injury and illness rate 57 percent below their industry average."

The Fort Worth facility, which employs 198 workers, houses business offices and broadcasting studios involved in television production, broadcasting, graphic art creation, copy and script writing, and audio and video editing. The parent company is located in New York City.

The Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and promote effective workplace safety and health management. More than 280 industries with about 1,400 work sites throughout the U.S have earned OSHA's highest recognition as participants in the VPP. Program participants typically achieve injury and illness rates more than 50 percent below their respective industry's average rates.

Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. The role of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
