OCARTA - Providing Support For Recovery

Our Vision

Our vision is that local communities demonstrate awareness, compassion, and support for individuals affected by addiction.

Our Mission

OCARTA's mission is to empower recovering people and their families through physical, emotional, and spiritual growth to make significant contributions to society. Through effective communication, public education, and promotion of healthy public policy OCARTA will reduce the stigma associated with addiction issues and support effective treatment.

Our Purpose

  • Change the cultural perception and attitudes that underlie unproductive policies and practices directed toward addicted and recovering people.
  • Educate the political, economic and institutional interests that benefit from such harmful policies and practices.
  • Articulate alternative perceptions and beliefs to change ineffective and harmful policies and practices.
  • Promote public education, turn personal stories into social action.
  • Encourage individuals to speak out about their successful recovery.
  • Empower citizen advocates to change the ecology of addiction and recovery.
  • Become a public educational movement. It will be at its heart a movement creating the expansion of recovery resources in communities across the state of OKLAHOMA.

RECOVERY is a REALITY

It is time for a new movement: a new recovery movement. The centerpiece of this movement must not be the proclamation that "alcoholism is a disease" or that "treatment works", but instead the proclamation that recovery is a reality in the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals, families, and communities. Leadership of this movement must not come from the treatment profession, but from recovering people and their families. It is time for recovering people to break their collective silence, announce their presence in the culture, and begin educating and advocating on behalf of those who have yet to achieve recovery. OCARTA is putting a positive face on recovery. If you were blessed by resources in your hour of need, remember that others devoted their lives to create those resources.
