@illill ini@ilillill@ * ISSUE: Establishment of regional and multi-regional resources B. Radiation dosimetry services The Division staff offers the following background and recommendation in this regard: The Division has received six formal applications, and has knowledge of a number of others in preparation, for projects which propose the provision of radiation dosimetry services. Nearly all of these represent a major investment in equip- ment, particularly computer consoles and related electronic communication networks. In the discussion of a single proposal at the November meeting, the Council expressed concern regarding the high initial cost of these projects in relation to the relatively small number of patients both in the nation and in individual regions, which require these services; and was uncertain about the relative merits of presently available communications links. Therefore, the staff recommends: . A temporary hold on funding.of such projects, and . The appointment of an ad hoc committee to consist of members of Council, Division staff, and selected expert consultants including representatives of the American College of Radiology and the Committee on Radiation Therapy Studies (National Cancer Institute), to advise the Division and the Council. The committees special attention should be directed to the possible use of the new grant authority (Section 910) for Multiprogram services.
