TSA's Aviation Direct Access Screening Program (ADASP) involves random and unpredictable screening of employees and contractors who work in secure areas of airports.
During a recent ADASP inspection at Baton Rouge (La.) Metropolitan Airport, Transportation Security Officer Antoinette Ewing conducted a routine ID check of a vehicle belonging to an aircraft maintenance contractor. While searching the vehicle, Ewing discovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver under the driver's side front seat.
Baton Rouge police were notified and the contractor was escorted from the secure area of the airport. The contractor faces a civil penalty as a result of the discovery.
Johnny Eason, acting federal security director for Baton Rouge, praised Ewing's discovery. Ewing has been with TSA since it started operations in Baton Rouge in 2002.
