While working a checkpoint X-ray at Okaloosa Regional Airport, Lead TSO Richard Early discovered a loaded semi-automatic .38-caliber Interarms/Walther handgun in a passenger’s bag.
The passenger, a local resident, told police that he was moving and had "forgotten that the weapon was in his bag." The passenger was not arrested.
"TSOs are the first line of defense against criminal acts and terrorism on aircraft," said Kevin R. Metcalfe, transportation security manager. "Although TSOs do not get the credit they deserve, incidents like this underline the importance of the job they do day after day."
