Helen Higaki, a transportation security officer at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., recently received an Eagle Eye Award for spotting a handgun in a carry-on bag going through the X-Ray machine.
Higaki immediately called for a supervisor. The passenger was taken into custody by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
"I was just doing my job," Higaki said when she received the award from TSA John Wayne.
Federal Security Director Kathleen Roscher cited Higaki’s attention to detail as an example of talent in the TSA workforce. "Knowing people like you are on the job is what helps us sleep at night," Roscher said. "We are all proud of you and thank you for a job well-done."
