The Center
for Entrepreneurial Growth (CEG) was established by UT-Battelle
and Technology 2020 to create an entrepreneurial climate in
Tennessee and to improve the dissemination of ORNL technology
to small- and medium-size businesses. Activities of the CEG
include:
- Helping
to identify technologies with commercial potential and marketing
these opportunities to target groups,
- Conducting
workshops and monthly seminars describing technology-related
entrepreneurial experiences in the region, and
- Providing
access to other Technology 2020 resources such as business
counseling and incubator space.
Providing
access to financial resources and coaching to complete the
necessary forms for:
SBA
Microloans
Community Reuse Organization of East Tennessee (CROET) New Business Development
Loan Fund
TennesSeed Venture Capital Fund
CEG Commercialization Fund
A
growing number of ORNL employees and ORNL licensees are participating
in the regular CEG workshops, and thirty-plus new CEG companies
have signed CEG agreements and have been supported through mentoring
efforts and the financial resources of Technology 2020's finance
corporation.
Clients
have come from the following categories:
- ORNL or
Oak Ridge complex workers who have started new companies
with the support of Technology 2020.
- Small
businesses which have licensed ORNL or other DOE technology.
- Companies
which are using the capabilities of ORNL to advance the development
of their product offering.
- Companies
which were started by the Technopreneurial Leadership Center
at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and have licensed
technology from ORNL.
