Our 2008 Taxable Wage Base, Maximum Weekly Benefit Amount, and Table of Contribution Rates

The Division of Unemployment Insurance administers programs and activities which ensure that the mandates of the Virgin Islands Unemployment Insurance Act are complied with. Section 301 of The Virgin Islands Insurance Act establishes in part that:

" Economic insecurity due to unemployment is a threat to the health, morals, and welfare of the people of the Virgin Islands, and protection against this hazard requires appropriate action by the ….The systematic accumulation of funds during periods of employment from which benefits may be paid for periods of unemployment would sustain the morale and conserve the skills and standards of living of those who became unemployed, by enabling them to meet their essential expenses for a reasonable period until they are able to obtain suitable work".

CONTACT INFORMATION
The Division of Unemployment Insurance has offices on St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. Our regular hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Our office on St. John has limited service to claimants every other week on Thursdays, from 9:00am to 2:30pm. We share office space at the St. John Legislative building.
