Summary The Mental Health Treatment Study (MHTS) will provide mental health disorder treatments (pharmaceutical and psychotherapeutic) and/or employment supports that are not covered by other insurance for study participants. Its purpose is to determine the impact these services would have on outcomes such as medical recovery, functioning, employment, and benefit receipt for SSDI beneficiaries with a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia or affective disorder. In September 2005, the contract for the Mental Health Treatment Study was awarded to Westat [Disclaimer]. Participant recruitment began in October 2006. The study remains in the field for 3 years, and a final report is expected in the winter of 2010.
