Agency Proposing Penalties Totaling $71,000

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Evaco Superline Trailers, Griffin, Ga., for allegedly exposing employees to serious health and safety hazards at the company's Aerodrome Way facility.

"Employers are responsible for job safety and health," said Andre Richards, OSHA's Atlanta-West area director. "Evaco Superline Trailers is facing $71,100 in proposed penalties for putting their workers at risk."

OSHA issued 33 serious safety and health citations to the company with proposed penalties totaling $62,700. The company also received two repeat citations, with proposed penalties totaling $8,400, for using flammable material in the spray finishing area. The agency issues a repeat citation when an employer has been cited previously for a substantially similar conditions and the citation has become a final order of the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Evaco Superline Trailers, which manufactures specialty trailers, has 15 working days to contest the OSHA citations and proposed penalties before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. The work site was inspected by OSHA's Atlanta-West area office located at 2400 Herodian Way, Smyrna, Ga. Phone: (770) 984-8700.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration conducted more than 39,000 inspections in fiscal year 2004. Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
