Region 6 News Release: OSHA-04-783-DAL Fri., April 30, 2004 Contact: Diana Petterson or Elizabeth Todd Phone: (214) 767-4776, ext. 222 or 221 New Alliance Will Promote Safety For Dallas Area Construction Workers DALLAS -- Furthering the safety and health of construction industry workers in north Texas is the goal of an alliance between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Dallas area office and QUOIN, a chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and Jordan Construction Services. OSHA's alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. "This is an opportunity for OSHA and members of Texas' construction industry to come together through roundtable discussions, meetings and contractor training to discuss the safety and health issues faced by construction workers on a daily basis," said Kathryn Delaney, OSHA area director in Dallas. QUOIN, a non-profit organization with members located mainly in north Texas, is comprised of both small and large employers in the construction industry. Jordan Construction Services, an El Paso-based construction company, builds commercial and multi-family residence complexes across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Alliances enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to work cooperatively with OSHA. They provide opportunities to build trust, exchange information about best practices, and leverage resources to maximize worker safety. For more information on this alliance or about forming an alliance or partnership with OSHA's Dallas area office, call (214) 320-2400. The Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is dedicated to assuring safety and health for all American workers.
