OSHA Offers Seminar for Employers of Spanish-Speaking Workers

South Plainfield, N.J. -- In a continuing effort to reduce on-the-job injuries and fatal accidents among the Hispanic population, OSHA's New Jersey offices are joining the American Society of Safety Engineers in sponsoring a professional development conference, "Effective Safety and Health Management Techniques for a Spanish Speaking Workforce," on May 6, 2004.

Patricia K. Clark, regional administrator of OSHA in New York, will open the session. "Injuries and fatalities among Spanish-speaking workers are just too high," said Clark. "In this session we will concentrate on the most common causes of serious injuries among Hispanics -- falls, electrocutions and excavation cave-ins."

Discussions of effective training programs for workers with limited English proficiency, demonstrations of fall protection equipment, safety and health information resources and a roundtable discussion with safety and health specialists are also on the agenda.

The session will be held Thursday, May 6, at the PSEG Power LLC Generation Support Center, 4000 Hadley Rd., South Plainfield, N.J. from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The pre-registration fee is $50 (includes a continental breakfast and lunch) or $60 at the door.

For more information or to register for the conference, contact Mary Bell at (908) 289-8139 or e-mail at info@maribellassociates.com.
