Region 3 News Release: III-03-07-10-110-PA Thurs., Jul. 10, 2003 Contact: Leni Uddyback-Fortson Office: (215) 861-5102 OSHA Partners With Healthcare Association of New Jersey To Protect New Jersey Long Term Care Workers PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Healthcare Association of New Jersey Hospital (HCANJ) have joined together to promote workplace safety and health for long-term care workers throughout the state. OSHA and HCANJ will officially begin their partnership on Friday, July 11, at 1:30 p.m. with a special signing ceremony at the HCANJ offices, 4AAA Dr., Suite 203, Hamilton, N.J. HCANJ is the healthcare leader for 320 employer members, including: nursing homes, sub acute care, adult medical day care, assisted living, comprehensive personal care and residential healthcare facilities. Working with its members and others, the association strives to provide high-quality healthcare to patients throughout New Jersey. Through the statewide alliance, OSHA and HCANJ plan to provide members with information and guidance that will protect employees from health and safety hazards, including work-related musculoskeltal disorders (MSDs), tuberculosis, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, workplace violence and slip-trip-and falls. "When employers and workers are armed with safety and health information, it lessens the likelihood of workplace accidents," says OSHA Regional Administrator Patricia Clark. "We look forward to working with HCANJ to equip its members with the knowledge needed to help keep New Jersey long-term care workers safe on the job." The partnership goals are to develop and disseminate information and to promote and encourage HCANJ members' awareness of, and participation in OSHA's cooperative programs including the Voluntary Protection Program, free OSHA consultation, and the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). The four New Jersey OSHA offices participating in the Alliance are Avenel, Hasbrouck Heights, Marlton, and Parsippany. OSHA is dedicated to assuring worker safety and health. Safety and health add value to business, the workplace and life. For more information, visit www.osha.gov. # # #
