U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT INVITES WORKFORCE BOARDS TO APPLY FOR HIGH-TECH TRAINING GRANTS

On June 24, 2003, the U.S. Department of Labor, ETA announced the availability of approximately $50 million for Business-Led H-1B Technical Skills Training Grants under a new Solicitation for Grant Applications (SGA) published in the Federal Register.

These grants, which may not exceed $3 million, are available to Business-Led Partnerships that consist of at least two businesses or a business-related nonprofit organization that represents more than one business. The partnership may also include any educational, labor, faith-based or community organization, or workforce investment board.

Applications under this SGA will be accepted until 4 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) September 22, 2003. A technical review panel will make careful evaluation of applications against the criteria set forth in the SGA which includes the H-1B principles and DOL priorities and emphases.
