Bolivar, Mo., Facility Achieves "Star" Status for Job Safety and Health KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Parkview Healthcare of Bolivar, Mo., is being recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor for continued excellence in maintaining worker safety and health. The facility recently advanced to the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) of the department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 25. "Parkview Healthcare demonstrated the potential and willingness to achieve 'Star' status by implementing planned steps to meet program requirements," said OSHA Regional Administrator Charles E. Adkins, CIH. "In addition to an exemplary safety and health program which includes significant training and involvement of some 98 employees, OSHA's review team found that the facility had a lost workday injury and illness incidence rate approximately 18 percent below the industry national average." In December 2000, the company was approved as a "Merit" participant, which is the first step in OSHA's VPP ladder. Citizens Memorial Healthcare, also based in Bolivar, operates Parkview and currently has six facilities participating in the VPP. Citizens Memorial Healthcare and Butterfield Residential Care have been VPP participants for three years and also advanced to "Star" status. Companies that have been accepted into the Voluntary Protection Program represent more than 200 industries. From coast to coast, approximately 1,070 work sites participate in the VPP. Information kits about the VPP application and approval process are available from the VPP Manager at the OSHA regional office in Kansas City, Mo., at (816) 426 5861.
