Annual Midwest Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference in Rockford, May 10-12

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Readying first responders and others to prepare for and safely respond to emergency events is the focus of the 8th annual Midwest Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference slated for May 10-12 at the Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center, Rockford, Ill.

A wealth of information on factors that influence emergency preparedness and response will be presented and made available for emergency workers, health and safety personnel and citizen groups involved with local emergency planning, according to organizers of the event from the Winnebago County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

This year's conference highlights the key elements of disaster planning and the workings of the incident command system, as well as offering the eight-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response refresher training course. Speakers and presenters include federal and state emergency management agencies, OSHA and local emergency response officials. Panel discussions will offer lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, the national disaster medical system, and information on the state's pandemic influenza planning.

The three-day conference opens for registration at 7 a.m., May 10, and continues with workshops and breakout sessions until 12:30 p.m., May 12. The not-for-profit event is available for an early registration fee of $90 before April 21 and $110 thereafter. Fees cover conference materials and costs. Registration information is available by calling Jane Mordick at the Winnebago County Illinois Local Emergency Planning Committee at 815-971-7081 in Rockford.
